Brasserie de la Senne The Banging Souls
Brasserie de la Senne is a brewery in Brussels, Belgium, named for the river Senne which flows through the city. De La Senne is the initiative of Bernard Leboucq and Yvan De Baets. Leboucq set up the St. Peter's Brewery in the former lambic brewery Moriau in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw in 2003. He moved on to create Zinnebir, named after the Zinneke Parade.

"I first encountered Brasserie de la Senne's beers on a visit to the brewery in Molenbeek in 2011, and the first one I tried was Zinnebir: this darkish blonde beer stood out like a great tranquil giant with its lively bitterness, machine-gun bursts of grapefruit and quenching sand dune-like dryness. Zinnebir - Brussels, 2002, Brussels' People Ale. Before there was Brasserie de la Senne, there was Zinnebir. Bernard Leboucq was home-brewing in the basement of a central Brussels squat in 2002, and he was invited to brew Zinnebir as the official beer for that year's Zinneke parade.Yvan De Baets, already passionate about beer, was a social worker working alongside youth groups on the parade.

De Baets founded the brewery that would become Brasserie de la Senne with fellow brewer Bernard Leboucq in 2003, but it wasn't located within Brussels until 2010. By then, de la Senne's twin flagships, Taras Boulba and Zinnebir, had become house favorites in town, and helped spark a mini-revival of brewing in Brussels.

We have been working, among other things, at encouraging the taste for well-hopped beers before they became trendy. Next to hoppy ales, we produce barrel-aged mixed-fermented beers, as well as beers refermented with a local Brettanomyces yeast.
